Better Access Initiative
Clients can be referred by their usual GP/Prescribed Medical Practitioner (at their MyMedicare registered practice), psychiatrist or paediatrician. Please include the following information in your referral letter (ensuring it meets Medicare requirements):
-
Client’s name, date of birth and address (please also include an email address).
-
Diagnoses/provisional diagnoses & symptoms. NB: If you’re unsure of a diagnosis you can suggest that the client see a psychiatrist for an assessment and management plan or have an assessment with a psychologist (not covered under Better Access).
-
A statement about whether the client has a MHTP or a psychiatrist assessment and management plan.
-
Where appropriate (and with the client’s agreement), GPs can attach a copy of the MHTP (submitted to Medicare) to the referral.
-
The number of sessions you’re referring the client for (the ‘course of treatment’ – max. of 6 for initial & subsequent referrals). NB: The current cap is 10 sessions per calendar year; referrals are valid for the stated number of sessions and can be carried over into the next calendar year (1 January to 31 December, not the 12-month period from the date of the referral).
-
Any current medications.
-
Your name and Medicare provider number.
-
The referral date and your signature (Medicare accepts all electronic referrals and signatures e.g. email/any visible representation of a person’s name or mark indicating they put their mind to the contents).
– Thank You!
Supporting SA Referrers
Aside from self, parent & school-referrals, referrals are welcome from private & public sector professionals, GPs, psychiatrists, paediatricians & self-managed NDIS clients.
Evidence-Based & Clinically Effective
Comprehensive research reviews (meta-analyses) for over a decade, have highlighted the clinical effectiveness & advantages of psychological assessments & therapy via face-to-face telehealth, for children through to adults, across a wide-range of client presentations.
Rural & Remote SA
Offering a confidential & accessible telehealth service to clients in rural, regional & remote SA & to those residing or working in small communities (understandably seeking privacy). Still I Rise Psychology® provides convenient, evidence-based support to those who may not have had access to such professional, confidential services.
Socially Isolated & Withdrawn
Telehealth is well suited to clients who might find it challenging to attend a clinic in-person. Working towards a hybrid model of both telehealth & in-person (outreach) sessions, or towards telehealth support taken outside, can be particularly beneficial for this client cohort who often benefit from a more behavioural, exposure-based, supportive approach.
Single-Incident & Complex Trauma
Research supports Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) via telehealth/video-link as a safe & effective trauma therapy. Bilateral Stimulation Technology is offered from the comfort of home.
Pre-Teens/Teens & Youth
Supporting young people in SA who may be showing signs of anxiety, depression, social difficulties or withdrawal, & significant mood/behaviour changes through evidence-based, attachment & trauma-informed therapy, in collaboration with family members, relevant professionals & schools as requested.
Non-Directive Pregnancy Support
This allied health service (provided via telehealth/secure video link) is provided to clients who are currently pregnant or who have been pregnant in the preceding 12 months (up to a maximum of 3 consultations for this particular Medicare rebate). A pregnancy support referral (which may be a letter or note to the psychologist as no specific form or plan is required) is not specifically for a mental health disorder as clients with parenting, health or relationship concerns are eligible. Eligible clients can be subsequently (or initially) referred under another appropriate initiative or be seen as a private client.
Walk & Talk Therapy and Outreach
While Still I Rise Psychology is a predominantly online-clinic supporting South Australians statewide, an effective hybrid model of both telehealth (via a secure digital healthcare platform) and in-person therapy sessions via mobile outreach is offered to pre-existing clients who typically reside in the Eastern, North-Eastern & Northern suburbs of Adelaide. This outreach service can include Walk & Talk Therapy and may be offered if such a supportive, behavioural/exposure-based approach is deemed important in meeting a client’s therapeutic needs.
In-person professional support within populated locations such as shops, libraries or parks can be instrumental for clients suffering from concerns such as Anxiety (e.g. Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, and Generalised Anxiety Disorder), Depressive Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, or Trauma and Stressor-Related Disorders (e.g. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or Adjustment Disorder).
Still I Rise Psychology’s unique hybrid therapeutic model facilitates life-changing support and targets clients’ concerns which can be resistant to change from the couch of a therapy room. Therapy can be provided during outings where clients can benefit from professional support in-person or via telehealth, helping them to reach their goals.
Ensuring best practice standards are achieved, a service will only be provided where it is safe and clinically appropriate to do so.
